Vaccinations
At Landisville Animal Hospital we strive to stay on top of current vaccination strategies and the science behind them. We adhere closely to the AAHA recommendations that are updated yearly, and adjust our protocols accordingly. This protocol includes strongly encouraging owners to keep their pets up to date on the vaccines that are considered “core” as well as on “lifestyle” vaccines.
Canine core vaccines include Rabies, Distemper Combination, Leptospirosis, and Bordetella vaccines. Based on outdoor activities or frequent visits with other dogs, we may recommend keeping up to date on Lyme and Canine influenza as well.
Feline core vaccines include Rabies and a combination Herpes / Calicivirus / Panleukopenia and even though Feline Leukemia was once thought to be a “lifestyle” vaccine, we are recommending that kittens receive at least two doses of the Leukemia Vaccine as well. After the initial series, Feline Leukemia boosters are important to stay current with if your cat spends any amount of time outside. If you have any questions at all about which vaccinations are right for your pet, please ask your doctor during your appointment!
