Diagnostic Testing

Just as it is with people, animals oftentimes require diagnostic testing in order to help us accurately identify medical issues. Below, you'll find information on some of the common diagnostic testing we perform.

Laboratory Diagnostics

At Landisville Animal Hospital, we strive to maintain the most up-to-date laboratory diagnostic equipment available. We also participate with an excellent laboratory that collects specimens twice a day. We can also provide our clients with in-house blood work, which provides swift and accurate results that are especially crucial in emergency situations.

We recommend doing preoperative blood work before all surgeries, including routine spay and neuters. These results provide a valuable baseline for comparing future blood work results. We also recommend yearly blood work for all senior patients. Our goal is to detect health issues early on before a patient is even showing symptoms. Yearly blood parasite testing is routine for all canines, and helps us identify heartworms, lyme disease, and other tick born diseases. Fecal examinations should also be done annually (at minimum) to check for intestinal parasites that can make pets and even people sick.

Digital Radiography

Digital radiography allows rapid, highly detailed images to collected, reviewed and even forwarded to a radiologist, if needed.

Electrocardiography (ECG)

At Landisville we have the ability to record an electrocardiogram, analyze the waveform, and either send to a boarded veterinary cardiologist for further information or treatment recommendations.

Endoscopy

We have digital video endoscopy which allows visualization of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine.  This allows diagnosis of some conditions, biopsies to be taken with minimal recovery, or even retrieval of ingested foreign material.
